BUILDERS' APPROVAL

Mr. W. J. Mountjoy, Secretary of the New Zealand Federated Builders; and Contractors' Industrial Association of Employers, when interviewed, stated that his federation executive, has considered the proposals put forward by Mr. Webb in connection with the employment of youths over ' the age of 18 and under 25 years as apprentices and trainees in the carpentry, joinery, and bricklaying industries and had approved of the system and decided to give their full co-operation and assistance in promoting the scheme, which provides for the subsidising of apprentices' and trainees' wages. It is believed the arrangement will assist in the placing of many young men in useful employment. The subsidy offered by the Government will make it possible for young men to support themselves during their period of training, and for builders to take them into employment. The arrangement will no doubt increase the number of skilled tradesmen that are at present at a premium.
