Special forecast for Wellington:— Moderate to strong north-westerly

winds, rising to gale force at times

bablo tonight and tomorrow.

The general forecast f.or the Dominion, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for northerly to north-westerly winds, moderate to strong generally, and rising at tinies to gale force in the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas. In western and far southern districts\ the weather will be cloudy to overcast, with rain in Westland and in the far south, and rain will gradually extend to most districts with a westerly aspect. In eastern districts, however, the weather will be mainly fair to fine. Temperatures will be mild.

An anti-cyclone crossing the Dominion has been centred to the north, and under its influence the weather for the most part has been fair to fine. Barometers, however, are now falling in the south with the approach of the first of a series of depressions across the southern Tasman Sea. Hence winds have turned to the west or north-west generally, and this morning they were freshening about and to the south of Cook Strait Skies have also clouded over in most western areas, and scattered showers have developed on the West Coast of the South Island.

Auckland's weather yesterday was cloudy to overcast with a light and variable wind. At 9 a.m. today it was overcast, with a gentle westerly wind..

Wellington's weather was fair and mild, but with a considerable amount of cloud, only 3.3 hours ol bright sunshine being recorded. A moderate southerly blew during the morning, but this fell away in (lie afternoon, and in the evening a light northwesterly sprang up.
