SAVED BY COMPANION

THREE MAORI CHILDREN

CAPSIZE OF BOAT

(By Telesraph-'Frees Association;)

ROTORUA, September 9,

Three Maori children, WJ Humi, aged 6; Make Kingi, aged 6; and Tuku Hunu, aged 6, were rescued from drowning this morning by an older companion, Peti Hunu, aged 13, when a small boat in which they were crossing Lake Rotoiti on their way to school suddenly sank.

Showing the greatest tenacity and resource, Peti kept the three younger children, who were all unable to swim,-afloat until two canoes were paddled to their assistance. The boat was well out in the lake and in very deep water when the accident occurred. None of the four were much the worse for their experience, though all were suffering from shock.
