BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS

DUNEDIN, September 9..The second night's play in the New Zealand badminton championships was witnessed by a large number of spectators who were treated to a number of spectacular and exciting matches.

P. Hawksworth, Dominion champion, encountered serious opposition tonight from H. C. Dillon (Otago), whom he defeated 15-13, 15-12. The Otago man was particularly fit and made the champion, fight for every point. D. Reid, of .Wellington, who beat W. Abbott, Otago .champion,- on the first night, scored a second victory by beating' G.p R. Dickinson (Otago), the score being 15-6, 18-15. J. Speddihg (Taranaki) had"a hard fight against J. Swan (Otago), but emerged the winner after playing a third set. R. Stark (Otago), who.-beat G. A. Pearce (Wellington) on the first night, scored a second wirrbv beating the'local player. R. Galbraith.

In the women's singles. Miss. J. Ramsay (Auckland) went down to Miss N. Fleming (Wellington). 11-4. 11-6. M'sses M. Edmondsbn (Auckland). M. Kerr (Otago), and Mrs. P. Hawksworth are other beaten players in the singles, championship.
