_, At the monthly meeting of the Weihngton Red Cross Society over which Mr. F. S. Pope presided, progress for the arrangements for the organisation of Red Cross Week in October was reported. .

The resignation of Sister Whitelaw, -. :u Cross nurse, was accepted with regret.

, The matron of the Wellington Hospital acknowledged assistance by the Ladies' Auxiliary.

A grant from the Macarthy Trust of £30 towards the work on behalf of the blind was acknowledged, also a cheque for £,\Q 10s from Woohvorth's Ltd. .■ .

The sum of £112 was received, through- headquarters, from the Macarthy Trust for relief of distress. The invitation from the New Zea land Centennial Exhibition for a delegate from the society to sit on the women's section was deferred until next meeting.

& The Red Cross nurse reported *!-■-'- ---senior classes in first aid were proceeding satisfactorily and examinations would be held next month. Classes in home nursing were particularly large and keen interest was being displayed by the students. During the month the course in hygiene had been completed and the examination held with good results. The cup in this section was awarded to Mr, C. Shearer. Instructional work at the schools had been interrupted with the vacation, but would be taken up immediately'they reopened. The voluntary aid detachment had held its .monthly meeting and members of the Brooklyn homenursing class who had joined up were received as a section of the detachment with Mrs. Fowler as section leader. Grateful acknowledgment was extend ed to the Crescent Players under My. Lloyd, who had given an excellent concert at the Ewarf Ward, the patients expressing warm appreciation for the entertainment. . ■ '• . . - .

A request was received from the patients' recreational committee, at JSwart Ward for the services of the V.A.D.s .in connection with the garden fete at the end of the year. Subject to the appi-oval of the board and medical authorities the V.A.D.s were: prepared to accede to this request. Warm commendation was expressed by the committee for the healthy development of the Junior Red Cross movement.

The ladies' auxiliary reported that members had attended at the . depot during the month and given relief in the form of layettes and clothing, and had also sent forward nine parcels of children's clothing with books and toys to the matron at the Wellington Hospital from the Wellington Girls' College Junior Red Cross Circle. The parcel of garments for repair sent in by the matron had also been returned with repairs effected. Seventy-two new garments had been made during the month. Visits had been paid to-the patients at the Victoria Ward at the Siospital. and.comforts in the form of cigarettes, tobacco, soap, powder, tooth' paste, playing cardjs, and books had been distributed. :

Ladies at thfe Red Cross Cafeteria at the hospital had attended 1379 patrons from whom the sum of £6 6s 9dhad been received as donations. Thanks were expressed to, the Ladies' Social Club for their shop day effort, which had amounted to £55 18s lid. Two classes in first aid for the boys at Rbhgotai College have been started, and good progress is being made. Work for the blind had been carried out as usual and among the services extended was that of meeting the blind passing through Wellington, installation and repairs to wireless sets, painting house, clothing, purchase of musical instrument, arranging for removal of family and furniture-to Auckland, purchase of tanks and.a bath.
