PROTECTION SOCIETY

S~AD CASES REPORTED

Fortnightly meetings are held by the Society for the Protection of Women and Children under the Jeadership of Lady Statham to consider . the best way to help women and children labouring under special difficulties, and it is a sad criticism on such a city as Wellington that at so many meetings such formidable lists should be .submitted of cases involving cruelty, neglect, desertion, delinquency, drunkenness, mental trouble, divorce and separation, sickness and poverty, in many and varied forms. These evils the society tries to combat, putting the sufferers in touch with the right official quarter, and, where at all possible, restoring harmony in the home.

A hearty vote of thanks was passed at the lr/.t meeting to the Macarthy Trust for its grant, as well as to the Rotarians for theirs.
