TROTTING BREVITIES

There are no brackets in the card for tomorrow's Wellington trots. Investors are requested to ask for their''tickets as follows: "One on win 20" or "One on place 20." Handicapper's name should not have been included in the original list of acceptors for the Railway Handicap. Anna Wong is a four-year-old by Erin's King from a mare by Wrack. Twenty Grand, who has been favourite more than once at southern meetings, is a four-year-old by Jack Potts —Mustapha, and is trained by M. B. Edwards.

•Worthy Need comfortably accounted for Ropata and Stepson in a run over a mile and a half at Hutt Park yesterday morning. Trevor de Oro has been working well, and in a spin with Purser yesterday he paced smoothly throughout and came home strongly. Adversity, a Cambridge entrant for the maiden events tomorrow, is an aged gelding by Al Mack—Nut Ansel mare, and is trained by G. T. Mitchell. »Lombard, one of C. S. Donald's novices by Jack Potts out of Delco, is a four-year-old sister to De la Paix, who won a race at Hutt Park last season.

C. K.Yeatman arrived at Hutt Park yesterday with Worthy Need and Ivy Peterson. The latter is a six-year-old maiden pacer by Rey de Oro —Lady Peterson.

Winning Post, who was bred by Mr. J. R. McKenzie, is a four-year-old mare by Silk Thread—Pearl Light. She will race at Wellington tomorrow in the interests of G. Edwards, of New Brighton, who trains her. The New Derby gelding New Ideal has been purchased by Mr. J. Richardson from Mr. G. J. Barton and will be trained at Forbury Park.' New Ideal proved a bad purchase for Mr. Barton, and in addition to lack of form displayed the bad and dangerous habit of falling over himself. Mr. Richardson has hopes of curing New Ideal of his bad habits. It is reported that the Southland mare Pola Negri, who is engaged at Wellington, is now in S. A. Edwards's stable. Pola Negri comes with a good reputation, and she is bred the way of a number of good racehorses. By Happy Voyage, her dam, Regma Logan, is by Logan Pointer—Regina de Oro, by Copa de Oro-p-Regina Belle, the dam of Logan Chief. The Winton Trotting Club has received a pleasing response to its efforts to stimulate breeding by following the lead of the Ashburton Trotting Club land providing races which require a horse to be well bred to win them. Over 50 youngsters have been entered for the Winton Juvenile Stakes of £220 to be run in 1933, and about the same number for the following year. Such races not only stand as an encouragement to breeding, but also help to create a good market for promising sorts.

A horse likely to win more than one race this season is Red Ranger. During the past twelve months he contested ten events, and finished in the money on each occasion. Red Ranger is again in work under N. C. Price at New Brighton, following a spell that has benefited him considerably. Red Ranger has developed into a stronglooking pacer, and he is putting a lot of vim into his efforts. Although he has not raced over two miles, it would not be surprising to see him racing to advantage In distance events this season.
