HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.nu this afternoon.

Mr. H. S. S. Kyle (National, Ric- . carton) gave notice of his intention to ask the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) if the Government would consider bringing down early legislation to give relief to ratepayers who were unable to pay their rates on the due date and were saddled with the 10 per cent, penalty. He said that local bodies had no power at present to make any concessions. Mr. W. Endean (National, Parnell) gave notice of his intention to ask the Prime Minister for a return showing the amount paid by the Government for the business of Picot Bros., including the amount paid for goodwill.

GUARANTEED PRICES

Mr. W. J. Poison (National, Stratford) gave notice that he intended to ask the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) whether he would lay on the table of the House the report of the special committee which advised the Government in regard to the guaranteed prices for dairy produce.

- After dealing with formal business the House proceeded to pay tributes to. the memory of the fpllowing deceased legislators:—Hoii. G. W. Russell, Sir Frederic Lang, Hon. L. M. Isitt, J. McC. Dickson, former member for Chalmers, Charles Hall . (former member for Waipawa), Dr. W. A. Chappie, former member for Tuapeka), and the Hon. J. McGregor.
