A .fierce battle, the result of which is-unknown, occurred west of Algiers between the rebel warship Canarias and two Loyalist destroyers which were convoying merchantmen. One of the merchantmen, the Aldecoa, was run ashore to escape the Canarias's gunfire, and was wrecked. The vessel was carrying 300 tons of explosives. The French authorities rushed a seaplane and two destroyers to the scene of the battle to protect coastal shipping.
