EFFECT IN LONDON

MARKETS DEPRESSED

MORE OPTIMISTIC FEELING

(Received September 9, 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, September 8. The overnight slump on Wall Street, combined with international uncertainties, depressed the stock markets. Internationals sold heavily and giltedged at a fraction -lower. Japanese bonds fell two or three points. Shipping shares were freely offered at lower levels. Gold shares lost all of their recent advance. Following a reported recovery on Wall Street, the Stock Exchange street market was most active and the crowd was the largest for a year.
