FOOD AND EXERCISE.

"Your correspondent, & R.> C. Robieson, in his letter on health diet, says some most pertinent things, regarding the great benefits derived alike from the correct preparation and combination of ordinary, unspoiled; or natu-' ral' foods, and 'from the indulgence o± exercise of the right kind'," writes F. C. Every. "To exercise the body is quite as necessary as is the consuming of a sufficiency of wholesome food. Food and exercise are two necessary and inspeparable means to the endgood health. That both these must go together has long and emphatically been insisted upon by Bernarr Macfadd'en. The eating of natural, no devitalised, foods, makes good blood for the nourishing of the body. Exercise, especially if taken in the open air, stimulates the circulation of the blood and enables it to perform its dual task of feeding the tissues of the body and of carrying away waste matter and other impurities. Therefore, whilst commending any effort made by the Government to increase the exercise indulged in by the public it will be a deplorable mistake if at the same time adequate attention is not paid to the all-Important matter of right eating, too. The importance of supplying only the right kind of foods, especially- to growing children, cannot be over-emphasised. • • • s.ir Truby King has done a great work in showing how a> baby can be given a good start upon its life's journey, yet, alas! how soon this good beginning is sorely marred in many a home and the child's constitution undermined, hampering it possibly for life, by the faulty nature of the food (and 'sweets) provided."
