FAIR TO FINE

MILDER TOMORROW

Special forecast lor Wellington: — Light to moderate southerly winds, which, however, will veer to the north before tomorrow morning. Weather fair to fine. Temperatures cool, but becoming milder tomorrow. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for light to moderate south-westerly or southerly winds at first north of Westport and Kaikoura. Light to moderate but freshening northerlies will prevail thence southward, and northerlies will gradually extend over the southern half of the North Island. Rain is probable in Westland and in the far south, but otherwise the weather will be fair and temperatures will become milder. Although still rather low to the east of the South Island, pressure has risen steadily over the Dominion owing to the approach of an anticyclone. The centre of this v however, lies to, the north, and a depression is advancing this way across the southern portion of the Tasman Sea. The strong southerly winds which were prevailing yesterday had by this morning decreased generally in force, und in the southern half of the South Island a change to northerlies has taken place. The weath hasT been cool and changeable, with light showers in a few scattered places. Although still mostly cloudy, conditions this morning in most districts had improved. Auckland's weather has been cloudy to overcast. A fresh southerly wind prevailed yesterday, but a light northerly was blowing there this morning. Wellington had fair tp cloudy weather yesterday and at times it was threatening, 5.5 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. A light northerly wind changed to a fresh southerly at 10.50 a.m. and there was a drop in temperatures thereafter. Christchurch had a fine and sunny day with scattered cloud and a keen wind from the south-south-west. A frost of two degrees was registered there last night, the weather this morning being fine and hazy with a gentle north-easterly breeze. r Dunedin's weather was fine, but cold, a strong south-westerly wind prevailing It was still fine there this morning, the wind at 9 a.m. being a light one from the north-west.
