COMING PROGRAMMES

Programmes which should appeal to I all types of listeners are scheduled by the National stations, and their auxiliaries, for the coming week. The programmes for Sunday evening include some of the best-known classical works. A feature worthy of special note will be the presentation by 2YA of Arnold Schonberg's "Gurre Lieder" —a modern work of unusual merit. From 3YA listeners may hear recitals by Mrs. Tristram Willcox (contralto) and Madame Beits-Vincent, the latter presenting a pianoforte lecture recital of French music. Some fine orchestral recordings are included in IYA'S programme. Light orchestral numbers, with recorded ballad interludes, comprise the major portion of SYA'S programme. 2YC schedules a light recital programme, while from |2YD listeners will be entertained. with a programme of popular features. Chamber music, followed by a relay of wrestling from the Town Hall, is 2YA'S offering for Monday evening. The first portion of 3YA'S programme is popular in nature, followed by a programme featuring compositions for two pianos, the performers being Gil Dech and Ernest Jenner, L.R.A.M. From IYA listeners may hear a studio presentation of Horton Giddy's radio play "Off Finisterre." Also on IYA'S programme is a relay of wrestling from the Auckland Town Hall. Edmund Barclay's radio play, "Eccles Cakes, Limited," is included in a popular programme from 4YA. From 2YC and 2YD bright, popular programmes will be broadcast. Tuesday's programme from 2YA is mainly classical in nature. Episode 7 of the serial play "Westward Ho!" will probably prove to be the most popular feature on 3YA'S programme, which is, for the most part, of'a popular nature. A programme of popular recordings is scheduled by IYA. From 4YA a programme by the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band, with vocal and humorous interludes, will be broadcast. "Variety Pie" will be presented by 2YC. A light orchestral and ballad programme opens 2YA'S offering for Wednesday evening. Following Dr. Guy Scholefield's talk on "World Affairs" there will be a studio presentation of the radio play, "Merry-go-Round." 3YA schedules a concert by the Christchurch Orpheus Choir, relayed from the Radiant Hall. From IYA' there will be a complete recorded presentation of the Gilbert and Sullivan opera, "Patience." A variety programme, followed by the recorded feature, "Victoriana" (No. 1) may be heard from 4YA. A classical programme is scheduled by 2YC, and a variety programme by 2YD. Grand opera takes first place in 2YA's programme for Thursday evening, an abridged version of Verdi's opera "Rigoletto" being due for broadcast at 9.5 . p.m. From. 3YA popular recordings will be broadcast. A continuity programme of various types of ceremonial music will be presented.by IYA, while 4YA will provide a classical programme. Those who. like chamber music will find their tastes well catered for in 2YC's programme, Popular entertainment comprises the major portion of all their national programmes on Friday evening, with a chamber music concert scheduled for the second half of 4YA's programme. From 2YC a classical recital programme will be broadcast.
