ONIONS. "Kelburn."—As your onions fail to bulb there is evidently something wrong • with the cultivation. The ground should be well dug and worked and thoroughly enriched. It should then be allowed to consolidate and in' some cases it is necessary to tramp or roll the bed so that it may be very firm. Young plants, which may be procured for > immediate planting, should be planted with the roots only in the soil. The small embryo bulb is left right on the surface. The plants lie oyer when planted, but as soon as growth starts they will right themselves. During growth the surface of the bed between the rows should be' frequently cultivated with a hoe, but this cultivation should be very shallow. .Water must be given when required and weak doses of nitrate of soda every three' weeks after growth has started-and until the bulbs start to swell will greatly assist growth.
