HAIRDRESSING TRADE

WAGES NOT YET'DECIDED

• It was agreed at the hearing of the Wellington industrial district hairdressers' dispute in conciliation council yesterday afternoon that a 44-hour week should be worked between 8 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on four days of the week, 8 a-m. and 9 p.m. on the day of the late night, and 8 a.m. and noon on the day of the half-holiday. Consideration was given to the effect on the hairdressing trade of the Arbitration Court's pronouncement on standard wage rates, and it was decided to adjourn until Monday next, when the question of wages will be further discussed. The employers increased their offer for journeymen in country districts from £4 10s a week to £4 15s, and for cr<;ual workers from 2s 6d an hour to 2s 9d. Agreement was reached on the employers" proposal to allow one week's annual holiday on full pay. It was also decided that the following days should be observed as holidays:— Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Sovereign's Birthday, Labour Day, Anniversary Day, and January 2 from 11 a.m. In Hawke's Bay and any other district where Anniversary Day is not observed, another day is ■to be substituted by agreement between the union and the employers.
