MUNICIPAL AIRPORT

SCHEME FOR AUCKLAND

A proposal to establish a municipal airport at Auckland was referred to by the Minister in Charge of Aviation (the Hon. F. Jones) today. The Minister said he had consulted the Mayor of Auckland (Sir Ernest Davis), and the Government had.decided to set up a committee consisting of Mr. J. Wood, Engineer-in-Chief, Public Works Department, as chairman, Group-Captain the Hon. R. A. Cochrane, and WingCommander T. M. Wilkes, to report on the proposal. Mr. E. A. Gibson, aerodrome engineer to the Public Works Department, i Wellington, will be secretary to the committee. It is expected that the members of the committee will visit Auckland to confer with members of the Auckland City Council at an early date.
