G. yon Cramm (Germany) was extended to the utmost to eliminate Hal Surface, 8-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, in the national singles tennis championships. Others qualifying for the, quarter-finals are Riggs and Grant. Budge won in straight sets from an unranked opponent and entered the fourth round.
