RUGBY FOOTBALL

WELLINGTON UNION

MUTUAL CUP MATCH

The Hutt Rugby Club's senior fifteen was chosen, by-the Wellington Rugby Union last night.to play Athletic, the senior, championship winners, in the National Mutual Cup match at Athletic Park on Saturday. Hutt was the successful challenger from a list which included Johnsonville, Marist Brothers' Old Boys, Petone, and Poneke clubs. A curtain-raiser Ho the match will be played at 2 o'clock between representative, teams of the Hutt and Wellington primary schools' Rugby, unions. Representations previously made by the union for permission to wait on the City Council as a deputation to consider the question of playing fields at Lyall Bay were accepted by the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, in a-letter to the union. Mr. Hislop pointed out that though the grounds might be proclaimed as an aerodrome, the purpose of that step was to prevent the erection of buildings on the area, and not to preclude the playing of sport. It was impossible, however, to gi,ve any assurance of the Government's intention so far as air services and aerodromes were concerned. At present-.a commission was deliberating on the question of the Rongotai aerodrome. It could be certain, however, that it was the desire of the council to preserve the grounds for sport as they had been in the past. ' ■ Mr. J. A. Wilson was awarded a representative blazer. In addition to past matches, he has been referee in three representative games this season. Permission to play the' following matches was granted:—September 11, Weir House v. Rest of Victoria College; Wright, Stephenson, and Co. v.
