PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTHLY REPORT

The monthly meeting of the Wellington branch of the Plunket Society was held on September 3, and was presided over by the president, Mrs. Jowett Feeling reference was made by the president and members to the devoted service of the late Mrs. W. Luke to the Plunket Society and the personal sense of loss that the members felt. Remits were discussed ana approved. The committee has decided to have a children's plain and fancy dress party 'on October 16 in St. Francis Hall. Prizes will be given,for the most oneinal, most artistic, and cheapest fancy dresses. -

PLUNKET NURSES' REPORT. The Plunket nurses' report gave the following particulars:—Pre-natal section: New cases. 36, return visits for advice 172, cases under supervision 146, Post-natal section: New baby cases, city and suburbs, 124; home visits in city, suburbs,' and Eastbourne, 1138. The charge nurse reported that the work had been heavier both in the districts and in the Plunket rooms, but the great help given by the voluntary motor drivers had enabled increased numbers to be visited without undue strain on the staff. Thanks were accorded to Mesdames Aiken, Boyce, Thorpe, Turnbull, Whyte. Wood, Maudsley, Wilson, Maudsley, Tripe, May lor, and Plank for driving. The staff also expressed appreciation and thanks for being able to attend the seminars and lectures given by the speakers at the recent Educational Conference. AH agreed that the ideal education set forward by the speakers was fundamentally the same as Sir Truby King's teaching in the society's training school in Dunedin. Thanks were recorded to Mrs. Beeby for a course of lectures on physchology to a "group of mothers, to Mrs. Boyce for shoes, Mrs. Bloom for a canvas cot, Mrs. Holland for a set of scales for Brooklyn, and Mesdames Hammond, Barnett, Basiere, Trewellan, and Dalhousie for parcels of clothing. KARITANE HOSPITAL. ' The matron of the Sir Truby and Lady King •Karitane' Hospital reported that during the month 24 babies and 11 mothers were admitted,^ and 23 babies and five mothers were in residence at the end of the month. The triplets from' Hastings continued to thrive; their weights were now: Mary 101b, Elizabeth. 101b lOoz, and Rose 101b 4oz. ■ Another admission was a two-month premature baby brought by air from Blenheim when ten days old. She weighed 31b 4oz on admission, and was progressing well, her weight now being sJlb. Nurses Cunningham, Reeves, and Kain had completed their training, and Misses Sutherland; Ffitch, and Frater had commenced training. "Visitors during the month included members of the coastal towns committee and Miss Matthews with fifty girls from the Kilbirnie, School. : The matron thanked Mrs. Rangihaeata for a juice extractor, Mrs. Gawith for carrots and flowers, Mrs. Wilson (Waikanae) for apples and flowers, and committee members for old linen and papers.
