PAKAPOO SHOPS
AUCKLAND COURT COMMENT
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
Defending two Chinese charged with using premises as common gaming houses, Mr.-L. "P.- Leary said the inference was that the Chinese were teaching Europeans to gamble but this was rather like teaching one's grandmother to suck eggs. "The Chinese cannot teach the AngloSaxon how to camble," said Mr. Leary. "Our history of gambling is as honourable as that of the Chinese and of equal antiquity." In fining the accused £20 and £25 respectively the Magistrate, Mr. McKcan, remarked that if small fines were imposed pakapoo shops would become an absolute nuisance.
