SEVERE EARTHQUAKE
SYDNEY, September 5. The Riverview Observatory, Sydney, recorded a severe earthquake of unknown location 5700 miles northwest of Sydney early on Saturday morning. The Dominion Observatory recorded a big long-distance earthquake at 6.35 a.m. on Saturday, the distance from Wellington being estimated as a little over 3000 miles. At 9.10 a.m. on the same day another one was recorded, but this, was not quite so big. The distance from Wellington of the second shake has not yet been computed.
