The general forecast for the Dominion' as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for northerly to westerly winds to the north of Kawhia and East Cape, and for south-easterlies in the Cook Strait.area. Otherwise easterlies to north-easterlies will prevail.. Winds will be moderate to strong generally, gale force being reached in parts of the Cook Strait area. A change to southerlies will gradually extend over the' Dominion. The weather will be cloudy to overcast with much mist or f»g. Fairly general rain is probable, with some heavy falls, especially in eastern areas. Temperatures will become colder: tomorrow, and snow may be- expected on the ranges. ' • . l Under the influence of a widespread but apparently rather shallow cyclonic depression, which has been covering the Tasman Sea and which has extended on to the North Island, the weather during^ the weekend was dull and misty, with occasional rain in most districts. ■In the western and far southern districts of the South Island, however, it was mainly fair. Winds between north-east and east have predominated. These haye1 freshened at times on the east coast of the south island, and strong . south-easterlies have been blowing in the Cook' Strait area. Auckland: had fair weather during the weekend, although it was mostly cloudy, and some light rain fell on Sunday morning.' A westerly breeze prevailed on" Saturday and a light north-easterly1 on Sunday. It was overcast there this morning with a north-north-easterly breeze. . Wellington's weather has been dull and gloomy, with- a moderate, to fresh south-easterly wind. ■.■ Light rain fell occasionally on both Saturday and Sunday, and between 5.45 and 9 p.m. yesterday steady rain fell. One point was recorded on Saturday at Kelburn and 12 points yesterday. Christchurch had occasional showers on Saturday^ and the weather has remained overcast with . a,- moderate to fresh north-easterly wind. Dunedin's weather on both Saturday and Sunday was dull and misty, with a ,fresh north-easterly wind. It was cloudy there this morning with j a north-easterly breeze.
