The vigilance of a passer-by, who noticed smoke- coming from a woodwork shop at 237 Cuba Street about 7 o'clock last night, resulted in the Fire Brigade stopping a fire very quickly after it had started. Only slight damage was done to one wall of the workroom, which is owned by the Downes Estate and is occupied by Mr. Cunniffe, who lives above the shop. The occupier was absent at the time. The cause of the outbreak is not known. ,
