CHEESE FACTORIES
CONCERN ABOUT FUTURE
(By Telegraph.) / (Special 'to the "Evening Post.")
MASTERTON, This Day.
The future of cheese factories in the district was viewed with grave appre-
hension at the annual meeting of the South Wairarapa Dairy Companies- Association at Martinborough this week. The opinion of the meeting was that under existing conditions the supply of milk for cheese manufacture was decreasing to an extent that would not warrant the continued operation of the majority of cheese factories. ■ Dissatisfaction, with, the revised guaranteed price, which was considered inadequate to meet the increased cost of production and manufacture, was expressed in a resolution. Comparative figures showing the cost of passing dairy produce over the wharves were placed before the meeting. A resolution was passed expressing alarm at the excessive costs of the service on the Wellington wharves. Mr. A. Linton, a member of the Dairy Board, briefly addressed the meeting. Mr. H. Tilyard, a director of the National Dairy Association, was re-elected chairman. ' ■
