DIFFICULTIES IN CREEK

BLENHEIM, September 3.
A family residing in the Waikakaho Valley, about twelve miles from Blenheim, Mr. and Mrs. H. Collins and son and daughter, had a tlarrbW escape when their car was caught in a flooded creek in the Valley and SWSpt about a Chain downstream, the creek was running high, following the steady though light rain that has been falling in the district for some days, and When MiS Collins, endeavouring to make the trip into town, necessitating crossing several fords, the cat' Wag overwhelmed by the swiftly-running Current. The son Was swept away, but managed to regain the bank ioWef down. Mr, Collins himself, while carrying his daughter to Safety, was also swept 6ft his feet, but managed to climb out before being carried very far, •
A nearby settler, Mr. L. MoWat, whose residence is almost opposite the ford, SaW that the car Was irt difficulties, and quickly gave assistance. With the aid of a rope Mrs. Collins Was pulled to the bank. When recovered today the car proved, to be badly damaged, having been rolled over several times by the current. -
