BASKETBALL TOURNEY

AUCKLAND, September 3. Unfavourable weather" conditions prevailed today for the third day's play in the annual women's Dominion basKetball championships. Steady rain fell during the morning and the courts were in slippery condition. Matches which were.to have been decided this afternoon were postponed until tomorrow morning.
First Grade.—Auckland 12, HaWke's Bay .5; Southland 10, Otago 2. Second Grade.—Hutt Valley 13, South Canterbury 8; Poverty Bay 12, Manawatu 12; South Canterbury 13, Waikato 5; Hiitt 'Valley beat Wairarapa, Third Grade."-West C6ast 7, Wairoa 7; North Auckland 7, Horowhenua 7; Wanganui 11, Te Kawau 5. Following are the positions of the teams'after today's play:— ' ; First Grade.—-Wellington 6. Auckland 4, Southland '4, Canterbury 2, Otago 2, Hawke's Bay 0< , Second Grade.—Ashburton 10, Hutt Valley 10, Southland Minor 10, Poverty Bay 7, Manawatu 5, Taranaki 4, South Canterbury 2, Wairarapa ■1, Waikato
Third Grade.—Wairoa 7, Wanganui 6, Horowhenua 5, West Coast 5, Bush 4 HaWke's Bay Minor 4, North Auckland 3, Te Kawau 0. A decision to accept an invitation from Australia to send a tcani to the interstate carnival to be held in Australia next August was reached at a meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Basketball Association held tonight. Mrs. H. D. Muir, president of the association, was appointed manager and coach, and Mrs. Bain Challis was made first-aid official to the team. It was also decided that Mrs, R. C. Mclnnes should accompany the team. The selectors will be Mrs. H. D. Muir, Miss M. E. Armstrong (Wellington), and Miss R. A. McKenzie (Otago).
