SIGNIFICANT REMARK
DEFENCE VALUE OF RAILWAYS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) _ CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Significant remarks concerning' the , defence value of the railways were made today by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage), when replying to a deputation. "As regards the railways I might say that possibly, much sooner than you think, our petrol supplies may be cut off and we will have to rely on the railways for which we have coal in abundance. I have a shrewd suspicion that it might happen much sooner than anyone thinks. For our defence, if for nothing else, we cannot let the railways rust."
