INCREASING COSTS

TARIFFS CONSIDERED

The suggestion from Auckland that an all-round increase of 10 per cent, in the tariffs. of private hotels should be made to meet' increased;costs was considered by' the Wellington Private Hotelkeepers' Industrial Union of te ployers yesterday . afternoon. The secretary of the : union (Mr; W; J*. Mountjoy). stated' this morning that after the matter had been discussed the following resolution was carried unanimously:— ,

"That notwithstanding the.ever-in-creasing costs in commodities, etc., and competition and other factors; that at present concern private hotelkeepers, this association is not prepared,to decide the question of an all-found increase in tariffs, but suggests to its members. wherever it is found necessary and possible to ..increase the casual, weekly, or permanent tariff rates in private > hotels, it, be'left; entirely to individual' hotelkeepers to decide the matter for themselves according ~to their particular circumstances."
