The cargo ship Kakapo, one of a series of twelve being built in Scotland for the Union St^am Ship Company of New Zealand, was launched today on the Clyde by Mrs. Jordan, wife of the High Commissioner in London.
Of 2300 tons gross, the Kakapo, which is fitted with a single screw and triple expansion engines, will have an average speed of 11 knots. Replying to the toast of New Zealand at a luncheon after the launching, Mr. Jordan said that in the last nine years 27 ships, aggregating 235,000 tons, had been built.for the three principal companies trading between England and New Zealand. . • ' _
This afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Jordan paid a visit to the Lord Provost of Glasgow, and later inspected, the site of the New Zealand' exhibit at the Scottish Empire Exhibition.
