ANOTHER ATTEMPT TODAY

(Received September 2, 11.15 a.m.) LOCARNO, September 1. Sir Malcolm Campbell's official speed was 126.32 miles per hour. ■

The previous motor-boat record for boats of unlimited power was held by Gar Wood, who built and drove Miss America X at a speed of 124.86 m.p.h. at 'Algonac, Michigan, on September 20/1932. Before that Kaye Don, in Miss England 11, had reached V speed of 119.81 m.p.h. at Loch Lomond. Sir Malcolm Campbell tested outj his new boat at Loch Lomond drring Juno and Lady Campbell named it the Bluebird. For the first experiment the boat was fitted with a -practice engine of 1750 h.p. The Bluebird, similar in name to the owner's famous racing cars, is a singleseat craft of single-stap type designed by Mr. Fred Cooper! It weighs 45cwt and measures 23ft by 9ft 6in overall, having a waterline length of 21ft 6in. After the trial, Sir Malcolm Campbell said that he was very pleased with the craft. His staff had not wanted him to run the engine over 2000 r.p.m. because of new rings, but he was satisfied with the way she had handled.
