WAIKATO BEAT HAWKE'S BAY
(By TelegrapE—Press Association.)
HAMILTON, September 1
The Waikato Rugby representatives narrowly beat the touring Hawke's Bay team today by 17 points to 15, in a disappointing game. Conditions were idealfor fast, open Rugby, with the ground hard, the ball dry. and little wind, but both teams kept the ball tight practically throughout. There was little between the teams. Hawke's Bay were without S. Reid, Jackson, and Dalton, the All Black forwards, and Clothier, half, while Waikato were without Aitken, Best, and Taylor. The Hawka's Bay forwards were heavier and taller than Waikato, and had an advantage in the' line-outs, except when the ball was thrown by the Waikato wingers to Wynyard, but Catlcy hooked well, and when the pack
settled down the home side had the advantage here. Wynyard and A. Thompson scored for Waikato, Hawke converting one and kicking three penalty goals. P. Reid, Keeble, and Bradley scored for Hawke's.Bay, Bradley converting the. three tries. /
