The romance of a pair of scatterbrained Chicago reporters who were sure of everything except the obvious fact that they wanted to get married is the keynote of "Wedding Present," starring Joan Bennett and Cary Grant, which is now showing at the Palace Theatre. Three major football games and an inter-collegiate rivalry for the affections of sprightly Eleanore Whitney, provide the background for Paramount's thrill-packed football drama, "O'Riley's Luck," the associate feature. The film has William, Frawley, Tom Brown, Larry Crabbe. Benny Baker, Terry Ray, and Priscilla Lawson in top roles.

With virgin forests of the north-west as its background and a feud between rival lumber companies as its theme, "God's Country and the Woman" commences tomorrow. George Brent and Beverly Roberts are in the stellar roles. Brent is at his vigorous and ingratiating best as Steve Russett—a rich idler who achieves power in the big woods through conflict with his ruthless brother—and the influence of a courageous girl of the forest, Joe Barton, a role portrayed by Beverly Roberts. Several real lumberjacks take part in the picturesque sequences. The thrilling drama and romance of the film is tempered by robust comedy in the mood of the story. "Sing Me a Love Song," the associate feature, has James Melton, Patricia Ellis,. Hugh Herbert, Zasu Pitts, Allen Jenkins, and Nat Pendleton in the main roles. It is a highly entertaining song and dance test with three new catchy tunes. But 'it is not all music. It has one of the most entertaining stories the screen has produced, written by Harry Sauber. The amorous adventures of. a king who won the title of the Bluebeard of kings because of his six wives,, two of whom he had beheaded, is depicted in "The Private Life of Henry VIII, starring Charles Laughton, which- is now showing at the Rivoli Theatre. The story begins on the day Anne Boleyn, Henry's second queen, was beheaded, and Jane Seymour, whom he called sweet but stupid, becomes his third But the real romance of the picture is his love for Katheryn Howard, whom he would have taken for his 'fourth' wife had diplomacy not selected the German Duchess, Ann of Cleves, who wanted him for husband no more than he wanted her for wife, and who won a divorce in a card game played on their wedding night. His -marriage to Katheryn Howard promises to be his most successful, but she finds she has never forgotten her love for Thomas Culpeper—:and thereby hangs a tale of infidelity. The large cast includes. Binnie Barnes, Wendy Barrie, Lady Tree, Robert Donat, Miles Mander, Claud AUister, Elsa Lanchester, and many . others. Action, excitement, thrills, romance, and comedy are the ingredients in "Bulldog Drummond Escapes," the second attraction. As a means to prevent Seaman Preston Foster from marrying his daughter, Chief Bosuns. Mate, Victor McLaglen, of the United. States Coast Guard, has the sailor ' court-martialleci in RKO Radio's tingling drama,of romance and adventure; "Sea Devils," now, showing at the Empire Theatre. The daughter is pretty Ida: Lupino,; and Donald Woods proves to be a formidable rival to his shipmate, Foster, for McLaglen's daughter's affections. Realising that Foster is a happy-go-lucky sailor, like himself, McLaglen makes no bones about opposing Foster's suit for Miss Lupino, and the enmity between the pair flares into physical combat several times. Riding the range instead of the bridle, path is just one of the changes undergone by Ralph Bellamy in the title role of "Wild Brian Kent," the second feature, a n,ew kind of Western thriller. ,

Warner Baxter is seen in the grand Frank Capra film, "Broadway Bill," a worthy successor to the director's "It Happened One Night," now showing at the Seaside Theatre. Fashioned in the mood and, spirit of the famous Gable-Colbert. success, "Broadway Bill" presents Baxter as a life-loving nomad, happier as a "devil may care" than as the pampered son-in-law of a small-town millionaire. Teamed with Baxter is Myrna Loy. Together Herbert Marshall and Jean' Arthur love, kiss, and -quarrel in a glorious new romantic icomedy, Columbia's If You Could Only Cook," the associate feature.
