KILBIRNIE'S MEETING

The Ki-lbirnie Cricket Club's annual meeting, held last night, was well attended. Mr. W. J. Gaudin, who presided, said that he admired the modesty of the compilers of the report when they said that the club's teams did reasonably well. He paid tribute to the club for the fine bowling and batting performances its players had put up during the season, and drew attention to the fact that much of the credit was due to the officers of .the club whose services had made the year a financial success as well. "In the years 1920 to 1928," said Mr. J. Reid, "six Australian cricket teams visited New Zealand, and there has been none since then. New Zealand cricket has been going back in the past few years, and I am . not alone in my opinion when I say that this weakness in cricket today is because we have lost touch with Australia." He moved that the management committee of the club suggest to the Wellington Cricket Association that they press for a visit of the Australian eleven on its way to England early next year. Failing that, that some other Australian eleven be invited to New Zealand, or that the team visiting England come to New Zealand on their way back to Australia in November of next year. "I think that it is the duty of the New Zealand council to do all it can to revive the visits of Australian teams, and the fact that the New Zealand team is visiting Australia on its way back should lend weight to the proposal," he added. The motion was carried.

The meeting rejected a motion suggesting the club was in favour of club cricket competitions commencing on Saturday mornings instead of in the afternoons. This matter was .discussed, as it was understood that the "Wellington Association wished to know the feelings of the various clubs on the question. The need of a sports protection association as in Christchurch, to which a great number of sporting bodies are affiliated, was stressed by Mr. Reid in moving that the Wellington Cricket Association get into touch with other sporting bodies with a view to forming a sports protection association for this purpose. Twenty new' members were elected. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr. W. J. Gaudin; president, Mr. W. M. King; vice-presidents. Rev. E J. Orange. Rev. Canon J. H. Sykes, Dr. M.
