HAWERA JUVENILES

LORD CAVENDISH PLEASES

(Special from "Limited.") HAWERA, This Day. Hawera horses are making good. : progress in" view of the New Ply- I mouth and Wanganui Meetings ; Erne . weather and good track conditions have insulted in. several horses showling by their track efforts ..that they are rapidly approaching racing cpncu- ] 10K.' Brough has additions to his team in the two Waverley hunters, Gold I Tor and Prairie Boy, who are to be brushed up for the hunters\ events at New Plymouth next week. Both are capable jumpers. Gold Tor, who s by Kiosk from Gold Peak, ran a second in the recent point-to-point steeplechase at Waverley. ; . . The Monalofl filly.. golden Orchid, ' who claims engagements at New_Ply- ; mouth and Wanganui, has been .doing • steady work at Opunake and will re- , sume regular track work at Haweia this week under R. Brough. TAITORU WELL. Trained at Opunake, Taitoru is re- , ported looking in splendid fettle lor his coming engagements. ■■ _ Schooled over seven of_the. steeplechase fences, Royal Fire (Button) gave a good exhibition of fast jumping yesterday morning. Bimbo, started with him, took off prematurely at the third fence and fell. • Royal 1 ire has freshened up and promises to run prominently in coming hunters events. Friesland and Lowenberg continue to execute the tasks allotted them attractively. Both look vastly-improved horses. ' /-„.■' jO. Cox's Wanganui Guineas candidate, Lickem, is well forward and gives every indication of running out the mile solidly. Ruling Star, the other three-year-old in the stable, has come on a lot lately and is a fine galloper who1 promises to develop into a good one. . , _ In addition to those mentioned, Cox is sending his two-year-olds, - Lord Cavendish, by Beau Pere, and the Buoyant Bachelor colt, along more seriously. Both are splendid types and impress favourably. Ruling Star just shaded Lord CaVendish in a sprint over 3 couple of furlongs in 25sec this week, but the youngster ran . a bit greenly and he showed sufficient to indicate his promise. Dark Eagle, by Bronze Eagle from Priscilla Verne, is a third two-year-old in the stable but is not so forward as the other pair. The former Hawke's Bay apprentice EL Murray has taken service with Cox and will be a welcome addition to the lightweights of the centre. J. Brown has Notium, Kia Tere, Student Prince, and Narrator in tip-top order for their early engagements, and, all going well, the Quartet will com-; pete at New Plymouth. They have all sprinted well and look like holding their end up next week.' LE "GRAND'S"NEW OWNER. Looking in nice order after his spell, Le Grand has resumed light track exercise. Le Grand has been acquired by his trainer, J. Fryer, and is not likely to race until Fryer returns from Australia. The handsome PosterityEulogy gelding looks a good.prpposition during this, his five-year-old, season. T. H. Fryer will include in his team of four to race at New Plymouth the two-year-old filly Ruling . Lady, by Rulanut—Gaiety Girl, who will travel up for educational purposes and who is to have her first race at the Wanganui Meeting a wee.k later. Ruling Lady has displayed pace on the tracks and will be one of tha first of Rulanut's progeny to appear in public. Mr. F. Walker's Siegfried colt Fafner contracted a severe cold and it is doubtful whether he will be taken to New Plymouth. This is unfortunate for his owner-trainer, as he was well seasoned and looked likely to run prominently in the trial races; An addition to the ranks of Hawera trainers is J. Duggan, formerly of Woodville, who arrived on Monday and-has taken up his residence opposite the racecourse. Duggan brought with him the two jumping. horses, Otaki and Rioghail, and a maiden, Vienna, the last-named a neat-looking six-year-old mare by. Gainscourt from Bess Laddo. He also has the Iliad-*-Kilteel stallion Plato, who is to be-at the service of breeders.
