HORTICULTURIST'S DISTINCTION
The Peter Barr. Memorial Cup, for work' in / connection with ; daffodils, was recently awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society to Mr. H. Poole, of Lower Hutt. Although the cup has been-in existence since 1912, this is the first occasion-on which an award has been, made outside the United Kingdom". As the forwarding of the> original cup to New Zealand is rather a larger undertaking than was thought advisable, # the Royal Horticultural Society had a replica specially made, which was admitted free of duty by the Customs Department. This replica, and also a certificate, were presented to Mr. Poole at a recent meeting in Wellington of the executive council of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture. The presentation was made by Mr. F. S. Pope, president, who, expressed the institute's deep pleasure at the well-earned award, as Mr. Poole's wonderful work with daffodils was so well known. Mr.1 Poole thanked the president for his .remarks, and stated that he was very pleased for the sake of New Zealand to have received the award. Mr. Poole gave some interesting reminiscences of world-fampus daffodils and daffodil growers, and of his own experiences with this flower.
