The Monowai, which replaced the I Aorangi on the Vancouver run while ■ the latter vessel was undergoing engine ' repairs at Sydney, will be laid up at ' Evans Bay upon her return to Wellington. The Monowai is due at Sydi ney today anrl will leave for this port on' Tuesday morning, arriving here on August 7. The Aorangi will resume running next week, leaving Sydney on August > 5 and Auckland on August 10, for : ■ Suva, Honolulu, and Vancouver. Possession of the world's biggest : moustache is claimed by John Kontra, an 81-year-old Hungarian swineherd. At present he is in hospital at Kapos- j var, owing to an accident he had with ; his moustache. When he arrived it created a sensation, and doctors measured it. From tip to tip it was 28 inches long. The old man confessed that he spends most of his time tending his moustache, which he laboriously winds round a ram's horn to j make it curl. His accident happened ; immediately after he had rubbed some ] oil into it. The oiling over, he lit , his pipe. As he did so inflammable • vapour from the oil flamed up, in- ( juring the old man's eyes. But his • moustache was not even singed. .
