CHANGE IN COMMAND
G.O.C. IN PALESTINE
(British Offleial Wireless.) RUGBY, July 28. The War Office announces that P.lajor-General A. P. Wavell has been j appointed General Officer Commanding the British Forces in Palestine and the Trans-Jordan, in succession to Lieutenant-General J. C. Dill. MajorGeneral Wavell is to take up his appointment about the end of August. Major-General Wavell was born in 1333 and educated at Winchester and Sandhurst; He was gazetted to the Black Watch in 1901. H? served in the South African War and was in France from 1914 to 1016, being wounded and receiving the M.C. From October, 1916, to June, 1917, he was attache with the Russian armies of the Caucasus, receiving the Order of St. Vladimir and St. Stanislaus, and in 1917 was appointed to the Egyptian Expeditionary Force, with which he served until 1920. He was on the General Staff of the Twentieth Corps in 1913-19, and then served on the General Start of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force for two years, In 1921 he was promoted colonel, and in 1930----34 commanded the 6lh Infantry Brigade at Aldcrshot. In 1933 he became a major-general, and in 1935 was appointed to the command of Ihe Second Division at Aldershot. He was awarded the C.M.G. in 1919 -and the C.B. in 1935.
