Crime is easily America's biggest industry, according to an analysis which has been prepared by a wellknown criminologist, Mr. Courtney Ryley Cooper. In one way or another, he contends, crime' is at present furnishing a living for at least 3,500,000 people in the United States. One major crime occurs every twenty seconds in some part of the country and the homicide rate is slightly more than one an hour. Only one person out of every four in America, Mr. Cooper stales, can hope to escape the effects of some major crime.
