WORKING SLAG HEAPS.

The granulated slag dumps at Port Pine, from which it is proposed to extract zinc, are estimated to contain 4,300,000 tons of zinc, 550 tons of lead and 800,000oz of silver. The annual production of granulated slag at the smelters is approximately 140,000 tons The main constituents of the 2,500,000 tons of granulated slag are silica 20 per cent., iron 30 per cent., lime 11 per cent., zinc. 17 pc:- cent., lead 2 per cent silver 0.20z a ton, and gold O.Soz a ton' Mr. F. Green, who is in charge of the research department at the smelters, will be the representative of the Broken Hill Associated Smelters Proprietary Ltd. on the tour overseas for purposes of investigation.
