ACCIDENTAL .DEATH

A finding- of accidental- poisoning by carbon monoxide through the escape of gas in the deceased's room, was given by the Coroner, Mr. E. Gi-1-bertson, after an. inquest today into the death' at 156 Tasman Street on July 23 of John Henry Thomas.. CulAlbert Edward Colley,-' carpenter, gave evidence that he went, to the rear of his residence with a companion to look for a gas leak. At about: 8 p.m. they entered the room' of the-deceased, who was an elderly man. Before they entered they could hear .:gas escaping. The gas oven* was turned on, and the deceased was lying' dead-:in bed.

Constable A. Hobbs; said that the taps of the oven turned on very easily. Dr. W. Shirer, who examined the body, was of the opinion that death occurred by gas poisoning during sleep.
