MATCH WITH DURHAM

HALF-CENTURY BY LOWRY

(From the Special Correspondent ot the United Press Association.) (Received July 16, 11.30 a.m.) SUNDERLAND, July 15. The cricket match between New Zealand and Durham, which was interrupted by rain today, resulted in a draw. In the morning the weather was dull and the wicket good. Durham, which had made 112 for three wickets yesterday in reply to New Zealand's score of 330, was all out at the luncheon adjournment for 270 runs. New Zealand declared its second innings' closed at ,159 for six wickets and Durham had made 100 for four wickets when stumps were drawn. Durham's gpod score was mainly due to D. C. H. Townsend, a former Oxford Blue, who has loured Egypt and India with English teams. He played a really fine innings, being unbeaten for a century, which included twentyone 4's and one 6. New Zealand lost five wickets for 41 runs, mainly owing to fine lefthand fast bowling by Herbert, a Durham University player. Lowry and Donnelly recovered the position in a bright and sound partnership 'which produced 90 runs. New Zealand's declaration left the county with an hour and a half to bat. As use could be made of Roberts, the attack was stronger than in the first innings, but Durham played out time despite good-length bowling, in which Lamason and Hadlee participated. The attendance was 2000. Details:— NEW ZEALAND. First innings 330 Second Innings.
