RETURN TO OTTAWA i | POSSIBLE | REASON NOT KNOWN i United l'rcss Association — lly Electric Telegraph— Copyright. WASHINGTON, July 14. Before leaving Washington for Pittsburgh, the New Zealand Minister of Finance, Mr. W. Nash, told the Australian Associated Press agency that President Roosevelt had promised to go lo New Zealand when he had finished, his job here. Mr. Nash added that the State Department announcement concerning trade relations with New Zealand conItained everything that could be pubI lished regarding his talks, which had re- ! suited in a general understanding of ' mutual problems. Mr. Nash said he had found the friendliest disposition towards New Zealand. He lunched with the Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. Henry Morgenthau, with whom he discussed world problems, and conferred with the chairman of the Maritime Commission and with the Secretary of Commerce, Mr. Daniel C. Roper. He will proceed to New York tomorrow. The date of his departure for home is uncertain because of the possibility of a return visit to Ottawa, the reason for which is not disclosed.

The State Department issued a statement reporting that Mr. Nash's presence at Washington offered an opportunity for discussions for improving trade relations between America and New Zealand, but naturally they could not lead to a specific conclusion or to commitments. The discussions indicated that if or when circumstances might be favourable for conversations there might be satisfactory possibilities of results fruitful and beneficial to both sides.
