The camp, on Canton Island, of the Neiv Zealand expedition to observe the total eclipse of the sun, is seen at the. top. The low-lying nature of the island is clearly shown. This and the other photographs were taken by Mr. 1. L Thomsen, of the Dominion Observatory, who was one of the party. The three smaller pictures show a young frigate bird on the left and a booby bird in the centre, companions of the expedition. Less pleasant companions ivcre the large crabs shown on the right; these were as large as a man's fist.
