GAOL FOR A MONTH
(By Tulcavnph— I'ress Assoeinlic:;}. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. | For failing to stop after an accident, William Henry Tyler, aged 25, was sentenced to one month's goal and prohibited from driving for live years by Mr. Justice Northcroft in the Supreme Court this morning.
"This case has caused a good deal of: distress to me, for like most offenders for this class of offence, your intent was not criminally vicious," said his Honour. "A deterrent is needed. As recently as last year, the Legislature, voicing the demand of the public, made this offence much more serious than formerly, allowing five years' imprisonment."
