HOTEL WORKERS
Hours of work and some wages w,sre agreed on by the Conciliation Council which is today considering the licensed hotel employees' dispute. .
It was agreed that 40 hours should be worked weekly, and, where practicable, that, a five-day week should be observed. Otherwise, the week is to be 5i- days.
The employers offered a 5 per cent, increase in wages for the general staff; whose wages will now be £2 10s a week. A 10 per cent, increase was offered for male kitchen workers, which would make their wages £2 12s 6d. The workers agreed to the other proposals, but considered that the kitchenmen's wages should be £2 15s. The rates are in addition to the accommodation allowance, which is fixed at £1 10s weekly.
For not having a radio licence, Mandel Davis was fined 30s and costs and Frank Herbert Bradbury was fined 15s and costs by Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today.
A request for a lire alarm at Ohiro Bay was made recently to the Wellington Fire Board by the Ohiro Bay Ratepayers' Association, whose letter pointed out that an assurance had been given that when the new central station was built the district would be linked up with the alarm system. Ju its reply the board stated that on the completion o£ the station and the installation of new and larger fire-alarm equipment, attention would be given to revision and extension of the whole city system. The association's request would then, be given every consideration.
