Though pressure has risen over the Dominion under tho influence of an approaching anticyclone it is still rather low to tho east. Moderate to strong southerly or south-westerly winds have consequently predominated, reaching gale force at times on parts of the east coast and about Cook Strait. Cold, changeable, and unsettled weather has been experienced with shows in most districts, heavy downpours having occurred at a few places in eastern areas. Snow has also fallen on-some of the hiirli country especially in the South Island. By this morning, however, conditions had greatly improved ■in all districts with a westerly aspect and in the Auckland I'iovince.
