LE KSAR DEFEATED
FRENCH TWO THOUSAND
■ Le Ksar, easy winner of the English Two Thousand Guineas but subsequently most disappointing in the Derby, was in between the English classics beaten by Drap dOr in the French Two Thousand (Poulc d'Essai dcs Poulains), run over a mile, at Longchamps on
May 15.
There were only four starters in the French classic, and Drap dOr led throughout. Entering the straight, Drap dOr was several lengths ahead, but Le Ksar, under pressure, reduced the advantage to a length at the winning pos.t. Drap dOr, owned by the veteran M. Jean Prat, is rated highly, so there was some excuse for Le Ksar. By Blenheim out of Midnight Folly, by Black Jester, the colt ran once, unplaced, as a two-year-old. This season he had run in two races prior to the Guineas and won both in convincing style. At Le Tremblay three weeks previously he finished a long way ahead of Chesharn, the horse who had beaten Le Ksar on the occasion of his debut in France.
H. Harper, the trainer of Drap dOr, is an Englishman. The stable jockey, A. Dupuit, is the season's leading rider across the Channel.
