BRITISH-ISRAEL LECTURE

There was a large gathering at the Trades Hall on Thursday evening to hear a further British-Israel lantern lecture, given under the auspices. of Mr.; W. E. .Wilson by Mr. V. K. Brown, Mr. Wilson presided. . '■•..,'■■■', Mr. Brown submitted three main points, which he stated were each in themselves conclusive proofs that the British are Israel. . .'■ -'

"The first point is that the, Heraldry of' Britain is undoubtedly Israelitish in origin," he said, "and this can be amply proved when each detail of the Great Seal of the British* Commonwealth; of Nations is compared with the, corresponding Scriptural references to Israel in the latter days." The unicorn, continued the speaker, was a wild ox, the single horn of .which indicated great strength, while the lion was its counterpart in strength. " How was it that the prophet Balem had compared Tatter-day Israel to both i lion and a unicorn, and that Britain was-the only, nation in.the world-with these symbols and insignias in its heraldry? asked Mr. Brown. The superscriptions 'Honi Soit gui mal y pense," and "Dieu et mon Droit," written in Norman, or "Benjaminitish" French on the British Seal were merely translations of the Bible promises to Israel, viz., "Cursed is he that curseth thee" and "God and My Right," that is, the birthright promised to Jacob whose name was later changed to Israel. Moreover, the six lion.-- on the shield symbolised Britain's colonies, the three in the upper portion representing Canada, India, and Newfoundland in the Northern Hemisphere, whilst the three in the lower half represented South Africa. Australia,- and New Zealand "in the Southern Hemisphere and coinciding with the Scripture "The merchants of Tarshish and all the young lions thereof" which is generally agreed to refer to the British Commonwealth of Nations.

Similarly the speaker showed by numerous lantern illustrations that both the Royal Standard and the Union Jack (or Union of Jacob-Israel) were full of the symbolisms of Israel's lat-ter-day destiny

The next point considered by Mr. Brown was that Israel in the last days was to be the greatest Christian nation. It could not be said that the Jews fulfilled this prophecy, said the speaker, for they were in actual fact neither Christian nor, in its true meaning, a nation. But Israel, as a nation, was to serve God, and today, out of the world's total annual production and distribution of Bibles of .24.000,000. 23,500,000, or 98 per cent, of them, were printed and published by AngloSaxondom alone.

Mr. Brown's third point was "that the Tl'rone of. David was to exist for ever," and that this throne is identified with the British Throne today. Objections had been made, continued the speaker, that as "David should never want a man to sit on the Throne of Israel" Britain could not be Israel, for British history showed that sovereignty in Britain had been carried on by a woman. However, said Mr. Brown, on the authority of God's law. given directly to Israel, in the event of a failure in the male line, the inheritance passed to the female. Further, in numerous cases in Scripture the word "man" indicated "mankind."

Detailed genealogies were then given identifying Ihe throne of David as the Britifh Throne.

"What is the value of knowing that the British are Israel?" was often asked, said Mr. Brown in conclusion. This could be epitomised by quoting the Apostle Paul, .who said, "For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my relation; according to the flesh, who are Israelites to whom belongeth the sonship. and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law and the service of God and the Promises "

A further lecture willbe given next Thursday by Mr.-Brown, who was accorded a. very hearty vote of thanks.
