SEATOUN CLUB
This year the Seatoun Bowling Club celebrates its silver jubilee, and the annual report which is to be presented to members tomorrow evening, states: "The directors feel that it would not be out of place in this silver jubilee report to record the debt the club owes to those early members of the company who were responsible for its foundation, and for the facilities which we enjoy today. At the first recorded meeting of directors held on July 15, 1912, those present were: W. H. Green (chairman), H. E. Richards (secretary), C. McFarlane, Jas. Stephens, and A. Gregg. Of these original directors, Mr. C. McFarlane is still an active playing member, and Mr. H. E. Richards a life member of the company. At the first meeting, which must have been preceded by a tremendous amount of work and many preliminary meetings, 400 shares were allotted. In reading through this list, which comprises 77 different shareholders, it is clear that the then residents of Seatoun rallied round the company in its earlier stages not with the purpose of even playing bowls, croquet, or tennis, but with the one idea of assisting the company to exist from a purely sporting spirit. The following, who are still playing members, were in the first allotment of shares:—P. J. Wright, Wm. Magill, C. McFarlane, A. H. Wright. "To all those members of the company whose names are recorded in our early records, and to those who are not so recorded, but who so ably assisted in our infancy, we in our silver jubilee report convey our thanks. We sincerely hope that at the opening of our playing season as many as possible will be able to again gather with us." All competitions were completed during the past season, and the financial position of the club was improved. Club competitions were won as follows:—Crawford Cup (champion singles), E. Walker; champion pairs, P. Hepburn and R. F. Robinson (s); champion rinks, J. Ramsden, A. V. Swanson. S. M. Stone. E. G. Glenme (s); two-bowl pairs, R. M. Stratmore, jun.. R. M. Stratmore. sen. (s); junior singles. J. Williams; handicap singles, G. A. Hayden.
