CHEERFUL ROTARY

LARGELY-ATTENDED DANCE

PLEASANT DiVERSIONS

A model night for a successful dance was last night—clear, cold, and windless, and with the largest attendance ever noted at their annual, party in aid of their charitable funds, the Rotarianswere well pleased. They had moved their "venue" to St. Francis Hall, and with the good floor, in addition to extended room, not to mention' so many good hosts, the dance was bound to be' the success it certainly was.

Added to the usual tasteful "decor"' of the hall were chains of brilliant electric lights, grouped chairs in cabaret style, with little tables covered with dainty figured cloths, and at the end of the hall, the stage, where an excellent orchestra played, were groups of palms and handsome pots of asparagus fern, effectively arranged and backed with good scenery.

The supper, excellent in quality and quantity, . was set downstairs, the

long tables having an artistic plan of decoration. Each was centred with a basket,of pale green wicker, with red and cream roses intertwined. Pale green vases at intervals were arranged with "sol dor" narcissi, these being very prettily set/out. Little.serviettes inVthe^ame green'tint wer^ folded tentwise .flrjd .placed along thetables. , •

The president (Mr. Harry E. Anderson) and Mrs. Anderson (who was in a vieux rose-tinted lace frock) received the guests. Mr. F. R. Jones, (dance secretary and organiser) was also present, Mrs. Jones wearing black satin, handsomely sequinned. ' .

A most amusing novelty was pro? duced"just before the suppef. The men, by loud-speaker, were all asked to collect in the centre of the hall, and the ladies to sit around the sides. Then the men "processed" round the hall holding each other's shoulders to a lively trot played by the orchestra, going up to the .room behind the stage and receiving black : masks, while the ladies were supplied with coloured •ones. The menkind then . appeared again, entering by the end door, all masked. Partners were chosen for a Paul Jones''dance, where all became separated and new partners found, while-the fun waxed fast and furious; till supper was announced. Another

pleasant item.was an exhibition dance by Miss Marjorie Newport and partner.

So many were the guests that, even with the accommodation provided, the •supper had to be. in two relays, the president presiding over one relay and Mr. Telford over the other. . It was altogether a particularly delightful ball, and one of the most successful functions the club has ever: held. . ■
